Quebec Premier François Legault today announced a $400 million recovery plan to revive the cultural industry. Of this, $250 million is new money.

Film and television shooting will be able to resume as of June 8 “taking into account specific measures issued by public health.

“All filming activities, including pre-production and post-production activities, regardless of the type of production (variety, drama, film, documentary, etc.) will resume in the coming days”, said Culture and Communications Minister Nathalie Roy.

The money allocated to the recovery plan is divided as follows:

  • film and television production ($91.5 million);
  • businesses and cultural organizations in the resumption of their activities ($71.9 million);
  • innovation and creation in the performing arts (theatre, dance, circus, music, etc.) ($50.9 million);
  • music for the realization of innovative projects ($33.5 M);
  • digital projects ($14 million);
  • promotion of Quebec culture and large-scale projects ($13 M);
  • artists and writers $6.5 M);
  • existing financial assistance to revive festivals and artistic and cultural events ($5.9 M);
  • documenting the effects of the pandemic on the cultural milieu and supporting smaller-scale real estate and equipment acquisition projects ($2.2 million).
