We’re seeing a slow breakthrough in the interest rates on the credit cards of the major banks. They offer some relief, but it is on a case-by-case basis and does not go far enough.
While some banks are dithering, community credit unions like Vancity are announcing major changes. This week, Vancity announced the reduction of interest rates to 0% for its customers.
This is the kind of leadership we need.
We can keep the pressure on by writing a letter to the editor. Here’s a practical tool that allows you to add your own testimonial and send it to a national or local publication.
The big banks bought full-page ads in the major newspapers across the country. They want to make it look like they are doing the right thing.
It is up to us to challenge them.
