Trudeau commits $500 million to arts, culture and sports sectors

Dear member,

The Trudeau government announced on Friday $500 million in emergency assistance for arts and amateur sport.

In the arts sector, the money will be used to help cultural organizations and workers who are not eligible for other federal emergency programs related to COVID-19. For example, self-employed workers who are not eligible for the 75% federal wage subsidy.

”We will be looking at where that funding can have the most beneficial impact in those sectors. Because we recognize some of the measures, should it be the wage subsidy or the emergency benefit, or even some of the credits programs that we’ve established, aren’t necessarily adapted to those sectors”, said the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Steven Guilbeault.

The details of this announcement will be known at the earliest this week.

With solidarity,
