Recognizing Risk Factors
While preventing harassment is the employer’s responsibility, we all have a duty to be civil and respectful. Managers, colleagues, subordinates: anyone can be held responsible for tolerating a work situation that led to harassment. This is why it’s important to recognize the risk factors. There are many, and some can be quite subtle.
PERSONAL AND ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS THAT END BADLY
TOLERANCE OF UNACCEPTABLE CONDUCT WITH THE EXCUSE THAT “IT’S NO BIG DEAL, HE/SHE IS JUST LIKE THAT”

LACK OF RECOGNITION
A GROUP OF FRIENDS WHO HANG OUT OUTSIDE WORK AND EXCLUDE SOME EMPLOYEES

WORKPLACE TOLERANCE OF DISRESPECT AMONG EMPLOYEES
COMPETITIVENESS AND FAVOURITISM
TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE WORK

LASTING MISUNDERSTANDINGS WITH NO EFFORT TO RESOLVE THEM
STRESS: WORK DEADLINES

INCONSISTENT OR AMBIGUOUS DEMANDS AND EXPECTATIONS
