Physical Violence
Violence—from fights to murder
Violence in the workplace can take on a wide range of forms:
fights
property damage
vandalism
sabotage
shoving and pushing
physical assault
fits of anger
rape
arson
murder
Work environments with a higher risk of physical violence
Work with the public
Handling money, medication or valuable objects
Conducting inspections or enforcing rules
Solitary work
Mobile workplaces (taxis, buses, etc.)
Community work
A workplace undergoing organizational changes (strikes, lock-outs, etc.)
The risk of violence can also increase based on the hours of a shift.
However, even in a workplace that is not high risk, violence between two colleagues or between a colleague and a supervisor can still take place.
Being aggressive and displaying violence towards objects rather than towards a colleague can still be considered psychological harassment if the behaviour has an adverse effect on the work atmosphere.
