Civility and Courtesy
Basic principles for working together
Harassment is first and foremost a question of perception. It often occurs when there is disrespect and it has many grey areas, which tends to complicate the complaints and remedy process. Stress related to deadlines, pressure from clients and financial considerations contribute to an environment in which harassment is more likely to occur.
Harassment prevention rests on certain basic principles and starts with civility and courtesy in the workplace:
THANK YOU AND HELLO
Lack of courtesy can give way
to a perception of harassment
CHOICE OF WORDS, TONE OF VOICE
how we say things, the tone used,
the things said in emails, text messages, etc.
