Safety qualifications for rough terrain lift trucks (Class VII)

Description

Since January 2007, OHS regulation has required any person driving a lift truck to complete a basic training course in safe lift truck driving (Ref. Art. 256.3). This course meets standards in force in Quebec (CSA Standards B335-04 and B56.1).

Target population

The training is primarily intended for regular and casual workers wishing to use a lift truck or telescopic forklift for handling.

Goals

Following training, participants will be able to:

  1. COMMUNICATE risks involved with different equipment used;
  2. IMPLEMENT stability and capacity principles;
  3. COMPLETE AND VALIDATE a daily pre-operation check form;
  4. SAFELY USE AND OPERATE a lift truck;
  5. VALIDATE theoretical (written test) and practical knowledge under supervision by a qualified person.

Prerequisite

  1. Must have a Safe Training Certification for Classes I, IV and V lift trucks.
  2. Must be 16 years of age or older to drive a lift truck, and 18 years of age or older to drive a lift truck on a construction site.
  3. Must have a driver’s license.

Required equipment

Safety footwear and eyewear are required for outdoor exercises.
