Functions we represent:

Basic classification and reclassification criteria for all functions of the department:

  1. Every candidate must submit a resume relevant to the prerequisites mentioned below.
  2. Indicate only the projects for which you are credited.
  3. Your resume can include movies, TV series, commercials, music videos or any other type of productions.
  4. Mandatory training and certifications:
    • Standard First Aid with CPR/AED (Level C)
    • WHMIS 2015
    • Criminal liability for occupational health and safety
    • Respect, civility and prevention of harassment in the workplace (QUEBEC)
    • Basic Fall Protection
    • Safety Qualification for Lift Truck (classes I, IV, V)
    • Safety Qualifications for Scissor Lifts and Articulated Boom Lifts
    • Safe operation of lift trucks (refresh)
    • Primary access scaffold
    • Respiratory Protection
  5. For each function aforementioned, a documented work equivalence will be analyzed and considered, and subject to approval by the membership committee. Also, skills for which the candidate submits a certification will be considered. Likewise, technical skills that can be validated by a diploma, a portfolio or any other kind of proof of qualification will be considered.

Classification and reclassification criteria for each function:

Head Scenic Painter refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 900 days as a Paint Foreman.
2- Has completed a training course on the duties of a foreman.

Paint Foreman refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 900 days as a Scenic Painter.
2- Submits 1 reference letter signed by a Head Scenic Painter (IATSE member).

On-Set Painter refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 400 days as a Scenic Painter on at least 3 IATSE productions.
2- Submits 1 reference letter signed by a Head Scenic Painter (IATSE member).

Scenic Painter refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 600 days as a Painter, including a minimum of 400 days under IATSE jurisdiction.
2- Has worked on a minimum of 4 IATSE productions as a Painter.
3- Submits 2 reference letters signed by IATSE members, including 1 from a Head Scenic Painter and 1 from a Scenic Painter.

Painter refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 300 days as an Assistant Painter, including a minimum of 200 days under IATSE jurisdiction.
2- Has worked on a minimum of 3 IATSE productions as an Assistant Painter.
3- Submits 2 reference letters signed by IATSE members, including 1 from a Head Scenic Painter and 1 from a Scenic Painter.

Assistant Painter refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 210 days as an Assistant to the Painting Department, including a minimum of 90 days under IATSE jurisdiction.
2- Has worked on a minimum of 2 IATSE productions as an Assistant to the Painting Department. 3- Submits 2 reference letters signed by IATSE members, including 1 from a Head Scenic Painter and 1 from a Scenic Painter.

Assistant of the Paint Department refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 90 days as an Assistant to the Paint Department on productions under IATSE jurisdiction.
2- Has worked on a minimum of 2 IATSE productions as an Assistant to the Painting Department.
