Basic, classification and reclassification criteria for all functions of the department:

  1. Every candidate must submit a resume relevant to the prerequisites mentioned below.
  2. Indicate only the projects for which you are credited.
  3. Your resume can include movies, TV series, commercials, music videos or any other type of productions.
  4. The membership committee can ask to review your work in the form of a portfolio or a DVD before confirming your status.
  5. Mandatory training and certifications:
    • Standard First Aid with CPR/AED (Level C)
    • WHMIS 2015
    • Criminal liability for occupational health and safety
    • Respect, civility and prevention of harassment in the workplace (QUEBEC)
  6. For each function aforementioned, a documented work equivalence will be analyzed and considered, and subject to approval by the membership committee. Also, skills for which the candidate submits a certification will be considered. Likewise, technical skills that can be validated by a diploma, a portfolio or any other kind of proof of qualification will be considered.

Classification and reclassification criteria for each function:

Key Decorator refers to a member who:
1- Has worked for at least 4 years as a decorator on 10 feature films or TV series for which he/she was credited and/or had signed a contract for projects released in theatre or on DVD.
2- Submits an art-related college diploma or equivalent training.
3- Demonstrates an appropriate knowledge of software required for his/her work (Word, Excel).
4- Submits 5 relevant reference letters, including 2 signed by Key Decorators and one from Visual Designers or from Artistic Director and/or producers.
5- Has a First Aid certification.
6- Has completed a training course on Criminal liability for occupational health and safety.
7- Can demonstrate sufficient level of bilingualism for his/her work.

Decorator refers to a member who:
1- Has worked as Assistant Decorator during for a minimum of 3 years and on at least 6 productions.
2- Submits an art-related college diploma or equivalent training.
3- Submits 4 reference letters: 2 signed by Key Decorators and 2 signed by Decorators.
4- Submits a resume and/or a portfolio.
5- Can demonstrate basic computer skills.
6- Has a First Aid certification.
7- Has completed a training course on Criminal liability for occupational health and safety.
8- Own a valid driver’s licence.
9- Can demonstrate sufficient level of bilingualism for his/her work.

Assistant Decorator refers to a member who:
1- Has worked at least 200 days under contract in the Decoration department, whatever the position, and/or has another relevant experience.
2- Has a high school diploma and/or can demonstrate an equivalent education or training.
3- Submits at least 2 reference letters signed by supervisors with whom he/she has worked with in the past.
4- Own a valid driver’s licence.

On-Set Dresser refers to a member who:
1- Can demonstrate a work experience of 250 days on 5 productions as Assistant On-Set Dresser and/or Set Dresser.
2- Has a college degree and/or a relevant training in arts and/or a relevant work experience and/or a portfolio.
3- Submits 4 reference letters, including 3 signed by department members holding these positions: Visual Designer, Artistic Director, Key Decorator, and one signed by a First Assistant Director.
4- Demonstrates computer skills and knowledge in digital photography management.
5- Has a First Aid certification.
6- Own a valid driver’s licence.
7- Can demonstrate sufficient level of bilingualism for his/her work.
8- Has completed the following training sessions: Basic Fall Protection and Safety Qualifications for Scissor Lifts and Articulated Boom Lifts.

Assistant On-Set Dresser refers to a member who:
1- Has worked at least 200 days in the Decoration department and on at least 4 productions within a 3-year period.
2- Has a high school diploma or relevant work experience.
3- Submits 3 reference letters signed by supervisors with whom he/she has worked in the past.
4- Own a valid driver’s licence.
5- Has completed the following training sessions: Basic Fall Protection and Safety Qualifications for Scissor Lifts and Articulated Boom Lifts.

Set Dresser refers to a member who:
1- Has worked at least 200 days in the Decoration department and on at least 4 productions within a 3-year period.
2- Submits 3 reference letters signed by supervisors with whom he/she has worked in the past.
3- Own a valid driver’s licence.
4- Has completed the following training sessions: Basic Fall Protection and Safety Qualifications for Scissor Lifts and Articulated Boom Lifts.

Graphic Artist refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 90 days.

Model Maker Supervisor refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 120 days on more than one production.

Key Model Maker refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 120 days on more than one production.

Model Maker refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 90 days.

Picture Car Supervisor refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 120 days on more than one production.

Assistant Picture Car Supervisor refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 90 days.

Key Specialized Decoration Maker refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 120 days on more than one production.

Specialized Decoration Maker refers to a member who:
Can demonstrate a work experience of at least 90 days.
